A very long time. Hundreds of cycles. But the empire that came before that was worse. I don't know if it's possible to build a system that could hold farflung parts of the galaxy together without it being brutal and corrupt, so maybe the lawlessness is better.
...I guess that's true. That it would be hard to stay united, I mean. [Not the lawlessness he doesn't agree with that--but he gets her point.] It's hard enough with one planet, and that's the only one with people on it, where I'm from. That we've found so far, anyway.
