[Last week, when they'd briefly reunited with the living, Luke had told countless, encouraging lies. Unable to run and hide, he'd faked faith that he didn't have, the same way he used to promise Rosa "forever" despite knowing he had nothing of the sort.
Now, though... now, it's a little more genuine. And Diluc is such a calm, confident person--being honest with him doesn't seem too bad.]
More than I did at first. [...] But it's hard to hold onto, sometimes. People are still dying.
[ what diluc knows of luke is this: he's hides his pain well, and he's stronger than he looks. there's courage in honesty, and in setting aside your own fear to assuage those of others.
he wouldn't think less of him for his misgivings. ]
...They are. [ he isn't wrong—death still plagues the ship each week. ]
But you aren't alone. When hope is difficult to grasp, it's all right to let someone else bear it for you.
[ he knows there are many here who are more than willing to. and he's sure luke has done the same for others. ]
[This is a very sweet sentiment and good advice that unfortunately bounces off of Luke like it's hitting a force field, but he smiles anyway, because he is an obnoxious liar.]
I know. [Well! That's true! He does know! And, sincerely--] The same goes for you too.
[Diluc's holding up well, and Luke doesn't think he's lying about his faith--but he also knows that stoicism doesn't mean being emotionless or unburdened.]
[ the way they are both like we will NOT listen to good advice! :) because yeah diluc doesn't like to lean on anyone either :) ]
Of course.
[ but luke is correct in his assessment. despite how exhausting the weekend has been, diluc isn't feigning his composure, and he isn't devoid of emotions, either. it doesn't sit well with him that owner and harley are with them now, or that gregor will most likely be joining them tomorrow.
but, the best they can do is keep their wits about them. one day at a time. ]
[Sometimes letting people know you are sad is... unacceptable...
Luke knows this, though. And while he isn't really a fair person, and would push if he really felt the need to despite digging his heels in when others push him--right now, he thinks it's alright to let it be.

You've got a lot of faith, huh?
no subject
Don't you?
[ the question is part teasing, but part curious. ]

So he just nods, and waves a little.]
I'm heading out--can I get you anything?

diluc shakes his head. ]
I don't need anything at the moment, but thank you.
Take care, Luke.
