[ yes absolutely he has his little hat and also his little apron, it's stupid. also, i'm glad luke's like this. shoma finally pulls himself out of his cloud of work once he hears someone talking, and he turns to watch this happen. ]
Roboji. [ that's who, not what. ] It's a robot I made back home. [ roboji sways a little from side to side once they've shaken hands, pleased. ]
I guess you could say that. I just really like them, so I've been studying how to build and create them for a while. Roboji's my second one. [ like the second son...idiot child. ]
I always liked them too. I didn't go into robotics in college, but I've always liked working with different AIs. It's cool to see it implemented like this.
Right? I haven't worked with a ton of AIs yet, so I'm still learning what can be done and what combinations can be made. But I want to study more to figure it out.
[ if college is even an option…
but he tilts his head a little to that. ]
What did you study? I'd assume bioengineering given your profile, but your skillset's pretty varied.
[Hmm... there's a blip of curiosity there, but Luke doesn't push.]
You're right! My degree's in bioengineering, mostly on the system development side. But I got pulled into a project while I was in school, and between that and my work as a detective, I've picked up a bunch of different things. [My nightmare.]
THE WAY HE UNFORTUNATELY JUST ACCEPTS THIS THOUGH, judging by the way he nods almost approvingly. yeah! sometimes things happen and you just become a detective and engineer. ]
Was the detective gig before or after you started that project?
And is it everything that you really thought it'd be? [ this is half-sincere and half-kidding but...it must be nice to actually accomplish a dream like that. ]
[ i see this man is just detective-childe. luckily there is an amused sort of air to shoma's feelings when luke says that before it peters away. ]
This, mostly. [ gestures to roboji. ] I want to be a robotics engineer eventually. Development more than programming, but that's just because I like the building part of it a lot.
[Damn how'd you know that in week 3/4 I was gonna give you a memory of Luke falling into the abyss]
If you're already building things like this, you could probably teach yourself, if you wanted to. Get your degree that way. [Lightly; it's an idle suggestion, just a soft acknowledgment of that blip of thought, earlier.]
...can you really get a degree being self-taught? I've been teaching myself for a while, but for people to take me seriously I figure that was the best route.
[ but also he seems to shift his emotions to curious. and a little cautious at the idea. ]
Well, if you're lucky, you'll get noticed and recruited, so it won't matter either way. [By a company... by the government... anything can happen...] But at least in Stellis, we have some programs set up for people in unique circumstances. I know some companies have retroactive degree programs too--but they're still issued by the same universities other people go to.
[Not that most places check closely anyway but unlike Childe he cannot condone fraud.]
That doesn't sound so bad. There's probably something similar in Tokyo, but I haven't looked into it much. Things have been kind of busy and...a lot of time just goes into figuring out the daily stuff. At least I can work out of my house for now.
anyway...there's a soft pulse of heaviness with that statement, and shoma seems to be thinking if he wants to say anything to that. a bit of time goes by. ]
There was, yeah. Now it's just about taking care of some other things. Those might take a little while though.
One of the good things about this whole situation, then. [It doesn't hurt to have a bright side... he grins.] Not to sound like a teacher, but you can talk to me if you want advice, okay?
I appreciate the offer, Luke, but I'm not even sure what to ask anymore. [ there are. a lot of things going on here. ] But I don't think it makes you sound like a teacher.
[ if anything there's a short pang of exhaustion that quickly disappears. ]

Also wow Luke is immediately delighted??? He crouches down to shake Roboji's hand.]
Hey, little guy! What are you?

Roboji. [ that's who, not what. ] It's a robot I made back home. [ roboji sways a little from side to side once they've shaken hands, pleased. ]

That's really impressive! Do you work with robotics a lot?

After. It's pretty recent, actually. But it's something I've wanted to do since I was a kid, so it's pretty exciting to make it come true!
[Do I just have no sense of time in video games. Maybe.]

And is it everything that you really thought it'd be? [ this is half-sincere and half-kidding but...it must be nice to actually accomplish a dream like that. ]

[NERD...]

Let's hope that's not actually anytime soon. Sounds like it'd complicate a good thing.

Maybe, but I'd win, so it's fine. [OKAY]
What about you? What's your dream job?

Have you got people helping you out?

I'm figuring stuff out. It'll take a little bit of time, but I guess now I have eight weeks to think it over.
