Pretty different, I think. I wish I knew more about it so I could tell you, but my knowledge is pretty basic. [He says that but he probably has a fucking fish specialist somewhere hidden in an SSR card I don't have. WHATEVER.
Far from home is right, though. He nods.] Did you get a chance to talk to the senior crew?
Not at all! But they put me with two other people--Margaret and Anise. The two of them could probably make it work, but there definitely isn't room for three...
It's alright, though. I planned on guarding the door anyway.
I'll take a different room, if they have one. But I don't mind too much! It's no more uncomfortable than going camping in the wilderness.
[Jock behavior. Terrible.]
I hope so too... but I don't like the security on the doors they gave us. We may not be able to access each other's rooms, but that doesn't mean the senior crew can't get in.
[Or the higher-ups, or whatever. He's extremely bothered by being implanted with the I.R.I.S., even if he's tried to stay fairly calm about it.]
I don't think they're the ones who brought us here. [He settles on.] I believe that much is true. But I don't trust this situation, and I don't believe their explanations about it. And I think that, when things come to a head, they won't be on our side.
Ideally, I'll be able to get in touch with my team at home, and they'll help get us out of here with minimal trouble. But until I can do that, I'd be cautious of them.
[He doesn't necessarily think the senior crew is going to sneak in and murder them in their sleep, but. He doesn't want to turn his back to them, either.]
[Sidon doesn't need caution because who would ever hurt or lie to him... no one... BANGS GAVEL ENDGAME FOR NU]
It's part of my job to hold a little bit of doubt all the time. But even if it wasn't, we're strangers to them too, you know? If they really signed up for all this and they remember it, then they're going to trust the people they know, the ones they listen to all the time. Most people want to believe in goodness. [With some exceptions, obviously, but. That's a philosophical discussion, not a practical one, really.]
A detective has to have a good network, after all! [Among other things.] I know someone who has the equipment to pick up any message I'd send him, as long as I can tap into it. As for the rest of them... [He shrugs!] We just work together. Aside from [Jimothelle] my best friend, I wouldn't say I'm all that close to them.
All very reasonable doubts! [ he sounds very impressed, even as the optimistic type. ] I've never met a detective before—but you sound like you must be very diligent with your work!

He smiles, a touch sheepish.]

i hope he gets a fishing alt but this toast alt is very cute ]
I listened, mostly! Many people here understand contracts and companies far better than I do.
[ the zora do not have corporations. ]
What do you make of it?
no subject
It's hard to say... I want to talk to them more to find out. But I don't think they were lying about not being the ones who brought us here.
[If nothing else, 8 people is a very small number for this level of operation, especially if wholeass different worlds are involved.]

I would believe that as well.
[ he's not really the type to attack npcs on sight anyway, but also they've seemed pretty professional so far. ]
But that is all so technical—how are you doing? Adjusting well?

Luke seems content to let the conversation move on, though, rolling his left shoulder before he hooks his thumbs in his pockets.]
As well as I can, given the circumstances. The rooming situation isn't the best, but we're trying to get it sorted out.

Oh—are you having a problem with your roommate? [ concern ]

[ they have been put out quite a bit, so the least luke deserves is a place to stay. ]
And I should hope there's nothing to guard against!

There's good reason to be careful. One can hope they choose to help us, when push comes to shove, but I can see why you might not believe that.
[ faith does need to be earned! ]
What sort of team are you used to working with? They seem to have earned your trust.
